Formation and early domination

Alliance`s Roster for The International 2013: Loda, Akke, s4, EGM, and AdmiralBulldog.

The foundation of what would later become the Alliance Dota 2 team was laid when Swedish DotA veteran Loda, who had just left Singaporean Team Zenith after their dissolution following The International 2012, was approached by a sponsor (which would later become the Alliance organization) asking him if he was interested in putting together a team. Looking back at the glory days of his early career, his decision was to try to go with an all-swedish lineup in the same spirit as his oldest and most successful team, SK Gaming of the 2008 era. His and the fellow Swedish support veteran Akke`s, eyes fell upon rising Swedish solo-mid star s4, whom Loda had noticed during their HoN days. s4 and AdmiralBulldog were playing for the new upstart team No Tidehunter created by s4 and Canadian support player EternaLEnVy. In late October 2012, it was announced that Loda and Akke had joined team No Tidehunter, only one month before Dreamhack Winter 2012. which the team had qualified for with a mixed roster including German carry Black^

Winning the DreamHack Winter tournament in such short time after the Swedish veteran duo`s inclusion surprised many, and established the team as one of the best teams in the west. During the finals, in which they were trailing 0-1, they managed to bait the entire EG squad into checking the Roshan-pit with an ingenious suicide by AdmiralBulldogs Natures Prophet, and subsequently getting the first blood and eventually turning the finals in front of the home crowd. Alliance did not exist as an organization as of yet, but the team confirmed during the event that they were under contract by an unknown organization and that all the players had their trip to Jonk⸣⸖ping paid for, including current captain EternaLEnVy who was flown in all the way from Canada.

No Tidehunter at the DreamHack Winter 2012 Grand Finals.

No Tidehunter continued to dominate the scene with their own style of heavy farming and neutral camp stacking for the rest of 2012 until they began to show their first sign of slowing down in early 2013, starting to lose games in online tournaments in late January to early February 2013. This resulted in some conflicts within the team, which resulted in the team deciding that they needed a change in leadership. This resulted in the co-founder EternaLEnVy stepping down as captain in favour of s4 after the Canadian player was approached by Loda voicing the teams concerns. This only lasted for a week however, and soon after this change it was announced that EternaLEnVy had been dropped from the team and that the team was actively looking for a Swedish replacement.

As EGM started to stand-in for No Tidehunter starting with the third EMS One Spring Cup in late February 2013, the classic Alliance roster was born and Loda`s second try, the first being CLG which ended when he decided to move to Singapore to play for Zenith, to recreate the glory days of his past with a full Swedish lineup seemed complete, as the up-and-coming Swedish support was integrated seamlessly in the following weeks. With the addition of EGM, nth continued to dominate the western scene despite some people thinking the departure of their former Canadian captain would be the end of their success, and Loda taking a lot of flak from the community for removing the promising young Canadian from the team he created. The team now consisted of two of the most successful Swedish DotA players of all time in in team captain/spiritual leader Loda and support player Akke together with the up-and-coming stars EGM, AdmiralBulldog as well as in-game leader/team strategist and the brightest shining star of the team, solo-mid player s4. The last victory under the nth team name would be the fifth season of the StarLadder StarSeries, as only days after their win in Kiev their mysterious sponsor was announced.

Alliance announcement and conquering of China

On the 12th of April 2013, after months of teasing and promises of announcements from the players, Alliance was announced as a new organization with the goal of promoting and supporting Scandinavian and European eSports across the world, signing both Swedish StarCraft 2 superstar NaNiwa as well as well as the all-swedish team No Tidehunter. With Razer as their only sponsor, rumours of them being a European EG Dota 2 squad were shut down, despite strong ties to the Evil Geniuses organization were established. Their first tournament under the new name was the DreamHack Invitation which they won after a close finals against Team Dignitas. The next big test for the team were the prestigious G-1 Western Qualifers which, after being one of the western top four invites, they went through quickly and qualified for the event finals in China. The first LAN tournament under their new name did not go as planned however, and they were eliminated by mousesports in the first round despite having dominated the qualifying cups for the event.

Alliance winning the G-1 Season 5 Finals in China.

The loss at the ESL Spring Finals was the first big setback the team had experienced after their reformation to an all-swedish squad, but was also a lesson to the team that could take no win for granted. Next up before their trip to the Chinese G-1 finals were the playoffs of two big tournaments, The Premier League Season 4 and the WePlay Dota2 League. As Alliance won them both in convincing fashion, their loss at the EMS Finals were clearly behind them and the team once again looked like one the, if not the, best teams of the west. They were ranked first on TeamLiquid.net`s Dota 2 Power Rank of the western teams in April and May, and would soon alongside Team Liquid represent the west in the G-1 Champions League, showing the world how they would stand against the teams that had dominated the last International.

May 24th was the date of their first match at the G-1 Season 5 Finals. It would be the first time since the last international that a western team faced a Chinese team on LAN and a lot would be revealed as to where the two scenes stood in terms of strength versus each other. Alliance came prepared, and in their first match versus DK, they shocked the world as they did six month earlier at DreamHack, by all teleporting to their mid tower and rushing into the Roshan-pit with an aura-stacked pick together with Ursa and managed to claim the Aegis before the opponents were able to cross the river. Using this advantage to win the first game in an impressive display of strategy and execution, Alliance went through the group stage in crushing fashion, not losing a single game. In the finals they defeated LGD Gaming 2-0, achieving a flawless 7-0 score in the tournament. The win in China, which was not only the teams first win but also the first time a western team managed to win a major LAN in China in the history of DotA, earned them over $40,000 in prize money as well as the reputation as not only the best team in Europe but as one of the best teams in the entire world.

Summer, Bootcamp, and The International 3

Alliance at the ESL One Frankfurt 2015 Finals

Alliance continued to dominate in the start of the summer of 2013, after topping the TeamLiquid.net Power Rank for the third month in a row in the beginning of June, winning the two big LAN tournaments of June DreamHack Summer and StarLadder Season 6, the former with a "perfect" 22-0 game in the finals against Quantic Gaming. After a successful June, the team began its bootcamp for The International 3 on July 9th going on until the 28th of July during which they managed to win TPL Season 5 but were forced to withdraw from the EMS Summer LAN Finals in Poland due to prioritizing bootcamp time and also lost to their nemesis mousesports, failing to qualify for the D2L Season 3 Playoffs held at DreamHack Valencia in Spain. This caused them to fall to second place after Na`Vi who had returned to their old form, winning three big events in July, on the Pre-TI3 Edition of TeamLiquid.net Power Rank. At The International 2013, Alliance came out swinging and delivered one of the most dominant tournament runs seen in Dota to date. They went undefeated in their group and dropped only one game all tournament before the grand finals. In the grand finals, Alliance faced off against perennial rivals Na`Vi in a riveting best of 5 series that went the distance, culminating in a thrilling game 5 victory for Alliance. With their victory Alliance won the largest esports prize pool to date- $1,437,910- and capped off one of the most outstanding tournament performances ever seen in Dota 2.

Post TI4, and the Start of a New Era

Shortly after TI4, EGM was spotted playing regularly for Team Tinker, and a couple weeks later s4 was revealed to be playing for Team Secret. On September 3, 2014, the team officially announced the departure of their former captain, Gustav "s4" Magnusson, and former support, Jerry "EGM" Lundkvist. To replace them, Alliance began playing with Danish player MiSeRy and Swedish ex-HoN pro Chessie. Alliance found moderate success with this roster, including a 3rd place finish at WCA 2014. However, Chessie suffered an injury to his back which prevented him from playing . This led to an extended period of roster instability for Alliance, as AdmiralBulldog took a break from competitive play and MiSeRy was seen standing in for Team Secret. The team used a number of stand-ins at the end of 2014, including H4nn1,
